The Clover Club

The Clover Club Series is a high interest plot at a lower level of reading specifically written for those with learning disabilities, in particular Dyslexic children. At 11,000 words, this book is specifically designed to allow the targeted audience of struggling readers to feel included in a chapter book with an age appropriate, high interest plot. My goal is to say goodbye to the days where struggling readers stand out in class with obvious lower level books signifying differences.

Book Summary

Old Irish tales take a modern twist when the fourth grade Nolan twins embark on a mystical journey after wishing upon a four leaf clover with their best friends.  When their wishes come true their lives are forever changed.  Wes, Meg, Leo, and Ali make what they think are the innocent wishes of nine-year-olds, yet they do not consider the changes that can occur. The saying “be careful what you wish for” has never seemed so relevant. Two of the wishes come true leaving two of the kids overjoyed. However, the other two wishes create havoc in the lives of the children, their families, and friends.

In this first book, Wes and Ali get their lives turned upside down with their elementary friends when their wishes come true. However, Meg and Leo are excited because their wishes come true without any issues. Does this group of friends have a way to fix this?  Will half the group give up their wishes for their friends and can their friendship last among the chaos that is created?

The series The Clover Club centers on four fourth graders who embark on a journey where their friendship is constantly strengthened and, at times, tested. Each book focuses on wishes the kids make but with different outcomes. The books grow with the readers as the characters and plots become more sophisticated to reflect the target age group. The wishes start out as innocent child's play, however, the end of the fourth book centers on life and death with real outcomes that will forever affect the group.
